26/10/15 COURTS CLOSED FOR REJUVENATION 26-29TH OCTOBER

As most of you will be aware, the condition of our 3 all-weather tennis courts has deteriorated markedly in recent weeks and they are now a major source of concern.  John Hallett and I met with All-Weather Tennis Courts supplier (Fosse Contracts Ltd) recently.  The drainage problem is a result of compaction of debris that has been allowed to accumulate in the top few millimetres of the carpet leaving the surface discoloured, crusted and hardened.  Growth of moss and algae on this surface is compounding the problem Fosse Contracts have recommended a process of court “ReJuvenation” whereby: Machines are used to extract the top 5-10 mm of sand; High-pressure air is delivered on to the carpet de-compacting the surface and driving out the dirty sand The pile fibres are cleaned and untangled A sand spreading machine distributes and brushes in fresh sand to within 1 mm of the pile top A tractor fitted with oscillating brushes works the sand into the surface leaving the final surface "virtually as new". This patented process takes 2-3 days but play can be resumed as soon as the work is completed.  The new sand infill will require a period of play and weathering to bed in.  Fosse Contracts would return some 8-10 weeks later to top up the sand as necessary and power brush the area to create the optimum playing surface. An extra-ordinary meeting of the Committee was held last week during which a unanimous decision was made to take on board the recommendation from Fosse Contracts and invite them to undertake this work at the very earliest opportunity. The work will commence on Monday 26th October. The courts will be unavailable for use through to the morning of Thursday 29th October. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience. Mike Nickson Chairman

21/06/15 Graham's Memorial Day

Thank you to all those who came to support Graham's day on Sunday. There was a really good turn out and the rain stayed away and we all had a lot of fun. The grass courts were in great shape thanks to Carols husband Neil, and all 5 courts were played on for most of the afternoon - anyone from aged 5 to 75 was out there! The fundraising was also a success and we now have £346.50 (including a very generous £75 from Boroughbridge tennis club) to spend on something for the club in Graham's memory - it may be a trophy, or a bench or possibly a dibfribulator but if anyone has any other ideas please get in touch with Carol. It is not too late for donations so please let Carol know if you would like to contribute. There was some discussion about whether a family day should become an annual fixture so watch this space...!

27/04/15 Graham Parker

It is with great sadness that we have to announce the sudden death of Graham Parker. Graham has been a valued member of Thirsk Tennis Club for many years and has won the club men's singles and mixed doubles countless times. He has been a long standing member of our first team and he will be greatly missed.

07/11/13 Please change your shoes!

Now that winter is here, please remember to wear different shoes to walk across the race course to the courts. It will help protect the courts and make play easier if they are not covered in mud! Thank you
